Day 2 at Heart ❤️

Our first full day of classes was off to a fantastic start! Thanks to yesterday's camp tours, everyone knew exactly where they were headed, and campers jumped right into their schedules without missing a beat.

It's only Day 2, but achievements are already rolling in! Campers have begun earning achievements in activities like pickleball, riflery, and tennis, and we're excited to see many more over the coming weeks. Meanwhile, our cooking classes baked fresh biscuits this morning, and we have to admit—the office has never smelled so good!

Before lunch, campers gathered to vote in our Fire Lighter elections. Then, during lunch, we invited a few campers to teach everyone their version of one of our shared camp favorites. It brought a little piece of Mystic to Heart this summer, and our campers absolutely loved it! It was such a fun reminder that while every camp has its own traditions, the joy of camp is something we all share.

During siesta, we were notified of lightning within a 10-mile radius of camp, so we extended siesta to keep everyone safe. Campers enjoyed a cozy afternoon in the dining hall watching Home while snacking on popsicles and chips before heading to dinner. Sometimes the unexpected becomes one of the most fun parts of the day!

After dinner, everyone made their way to Mountain Top for one of Heart's favorite traditions. We are excited to congratulate Celeste B. and Zaeda B., who were elected as our Second Term Fire Lighters!

To end the evening, our friends at Camp Stewart surprised us by lighting a giant Heart atop Joy Bluff. Campers from both camps exchanged welcome cheers across the valley, creating a truly memorable ending to the day and a reminder of the special friendship between our two camps.

We're looking forward to another great day tomorrow as campers continue settling into camp life, making new friends, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.

First, an apology from us! Yesterday was so full of excitement that we never got our Daily Update posted. We know many of you look forward to reading them each evening, so thank you for your patience as we got everyone tucked into bed after another wonderful day at camp.

Yesterday was our first day of our Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday class schedule, and by now camp is in full swing! Campers have settled into their activities, friendships are growing, and it already feels like everyone has been here much longer than just a few days.

One of the biggest events of the day was Officer Elections. Campers cast their votes for the leaders who will help guide their Sisterhoods throughout the term. We can't wait to share the results!

Several specialty tryouts also took place yesterday, including War Canoe, Advanced Riding, and Quadrille. There was plenty of excitement as campers showcased their skills, and the final selections will be announced today.

We're also especially encouraged by our check-ins with our new campers. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive! They've shared how much they're enjoying their activities, how quickly they're making friends, and how welcomed they already feel at Heart.

One fun addition to this term has been sharing a few beloved traditions from Mystic during mealtimes. It's been a sweet way to honor friendships, celebrate camp traditions, and bring a little extra fun to the dining hall.

In Arts & Crafts, campers began creating personalized portfolios that they'll use all term to collect and protect their artwork. We can't wait to watch those portfolios fill up with paintings, projects, and memories over the next few weeks.

Today our girls have been busy knocking out achievements in their TTS classes! One of the tastiest classes on campus is definitely Cooking, where campers have been making delicious homemade tomato soup with grilled cheese sandwiches for dipping. We love watching the girls learn new skills, challenge themselves, and have so much fun in their classes!

Today we also finalized War Canoe, Advanced Riding, and Quadrille, and those schedules have now been updated.

After dinner, we headed to Division Night, and what a blast it was! Each division celebrated in its own unique way. Girls dressed up, danced, sock wrestled, raced down the slip 'n slide, strutted their stuff in a runway show, or simply enjoyed ice cream together as a division.

These are the moments that make camp so special—laughing together, building friendships, and making memories that will last a lifetime!

Today our campers were hard at work in their MWF classes, continuing to build skills, earn achievements, and make memories along the way!

After a full day of classes, everyone enjoyed a relaxing Bunk Night. The evening was filled with plenty of spa activities, special ice cream party for our Seniors, and so many laughs and stories shared with their bunkmates. These quieter evenings are such a special part of camp, giving girls time to unwind, connect, and enjoy the friendships that make camp feel like home.

Saturday was the perfect way to wrap up another fun-filled week at camp!

The evening began with our campers heading to their final TTS class of the week, where they put the finishing touches on projects, completed achievements, and enjoyed one last class of the week. Our juniors headed to the pool for our first swim meet of the term. When the points were tallied, the Thunderbirds came out on top—congratulations, T-Birds!

From there, everyone made their way to the Art Studio for dinner, where campers enjoyed a relaxed evening eating together and playing backyard games with friends. There was plenty of laughter, friendly competition, and time to simply enjoy being together.

As the sun went down, blankets were spread out, popcorn was popped, sodas were opened, and everyone gathered for Movie Night under the stars. This week's feature was Cars, making for the perfect ending to a wonderful Saturday at camp. There is something so special about watching a movie under the moonlight with your camp family.

Sunday was a wonderful day to slow down, reflect, and enjoy some of our favorite camp traditions.

The morning included cabin photos, giving each group the chance to capture memories they'll cherish for years to come. Campers also spent time at our letter-writing station, sending notes home to family and friends before gathering together for Sunday worship.

Throughout the day, campers enjoyed a variety of Flex Time activities. Some worked toward achievements in archeryand riflery, while others played rounds of Bingo, joined in a lively game of "Chicken, Chicken, Where's My Chicken?", or headed to the canoe docks for a little fishing.

One of the sweetest moments of the day came when campers gathered with Audrey Holden to learn a few of our favorite camp songs on the guitar. It was a fun opportunity to share music, sing together, and keep our camp traditions alive.

Congratulations to Virginia Bailey, who was recognized as Server of the Week for her positive attitude and willingness to serve others throughout the week.

Our Teens also recognized two outstanding counselors—one from Abrigo and one from Verbena—by voting them Counselors of the Week, a special honor chosen by the campers themselves.

Before dinner the campers [articipated in our always-entertaining Pizza Cheers! The Teens took first place with a hilarious parody of "Soda Pop" titled "My Little Pizza Slice." The S'Minions earned second place, followed by the Seniors in third and the Juniors in fourth. There were plenty of laughs, lots of creativity, and enthusiastic cheering all around!

Following dinner, our counselors presented this week's Vespers program to the campers, sharing music and moments of reflection as our camp family gathered together.

To close the evening, the counselors surprised everyone with a heartfelt sixth song dedicated to our Heart LITes, who were unable to be at camp last summer during what would have been their 16th summer. It was a beautiful and meaningful tribute that honored their journey and reminded us all of the enduring bonds of camp, friendship, and love.

Another wonderful day at Heart is in the books!

We started the morning with a little extra sleep before easing into the day. Campers headed off to classes as usual, with a few rainy-day adjustments along the way. No matter what the weather brings, our counselors always find a way to keep the fun going!

After lunch, we enjoyed an extended siesta while keeping an eye on the weather. Instead of our usual afternoon schedule, campers headed straight to 6th period once siesta wrapped up.

Before the evening festivities began, everyone gathered in the dining hall for dance lessons with Beth. Campers learned the Texas Two-Step and a few other dance moves to get ready for the night's big event. There were lots of laughs, plenty of spinning, and even a few future dance pros in the making!

Then it was time for one of the most anticipated evenings of the term—our Stewart Dance! This year's Luau Cowboy theme transformed the dining hall into the perfect place for campers from Heart and Stewart to meet, dance, and enjoy a fun evening together. From cowboy boots to Hawaiian shirts, the campers embraced the theme and had an absolute blast.

If we had to guess, we'd say there will be quite a bit of Stewart mail showing up in the mailbox over the next few days! 💚💙

As always, we're grateful for another day filled with laughter, friendships, and memories that our campers will carry with them long after summer ends.

Rainy days at camp don't slow us down—they just give us an excuse to get a little more creative!

Despite the rainy weather throughout the day, our campers didn't miss a beat. Classes continued without a hitch, and campers enjoyed everything from earning achievements to creating projects, making memories, and spending time with friends. One of the things we love most about camp is watching our counselors turn every situation into an adventure, and today was no exception.

As we kept an eye on the weather throughout the afternoon and evening, we made one change to our schedule. Gold Rush will have to wait for another day, but we think we found a pretty great substitute!

Instead, campers headed to the dining hall for Glow Bingo Night, and it was an absolute hit! With glow sticks, music, laughter, and a little friendly competition, our Big Sis/Little Sis Bingo Night quickly became one of the highlights of the term so far. The dining hall was full of cheering, dancing, and plenty of excited winners.

By the time the evening came to a close, everyone was all smiles as they headed back to their cabins for an early bedtime—just before another round of storms moved through the area.

As always, our leadership team continued monitoring the weather and river conditions throughout the evening using radar, weather alerts, and on-site monitoring.

Rain or shine, camp has a way of making every day memorable, and today was a perfect example of that. We can't wait to see what tomorrow brings!

Today looked a little different than we had planned, but it was another wonderful day at Heart.

After a slow and steady rain overnight, we enjoyed a relaxing sleep-in followed by one of our campers' favorite traditions—breakfast in bed! While the rain continued through the morning, campers stayed cozy in their cabins, enjoying games, crafts, and spending extra time with their cabinmates.

We also want to reassure our camp families that the rise in the river was exactly what we'd expect after the amount of rain we received and remains well below the levels we experienced last summer. Our campers and counselors were safe throughout the day, and we continued to monitor conditions closely while making adjustments to our schedule.

By late morning, cabin excitement was in full swing as campers worked together to prepare for one of the funniest events of the summer—our annual Lip Sync Battle! From creative costumes to dance moves and hilarious performances, each cabin brought incredible energy and plenty of laughs to the dining hall. It was impossible not to smile watching the campers cheer each other on.

As the weather improved this afternoon, we were excited to reopen activities! Campers spread out across camp for pickleball, dodgeball, the slip 'n slide, and Just Dance, making the most of a fun afternoon together.

After dinner, everyone enjoyed a movie and an ice cream party before heading to bed a little early after such an exciting day.

One thing we love about camp is watching our community embrace whatever the day brings. Whether it's sunshine or a rainy-day schedule, our campers have an amazing way of finding the fun—and today was no exception. Thank you for trusting us with your daughters. They are safe, smiling, and making memories every single day.

Friday was another great day at Heart as campers continued enjoying their Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes. Despite the weather-related adjustments throughout the week, the girls jumped right into their activities, and achievements have continued to roll in. It's been fun watching campers gain confidence, learn new skills, and celebrate their accomplishments.

As the afternoon came to a close, everyone looked forward to a relaxing even with their Division. Each division enjoyed its own special activity, giving campers a chance to relax, laugh, and spend time with the girls in their age group.

Our Junior campers celebrated with an ice cream party, the Minions showed off their creativity during a fun runway show, the Sophomores enjoyed nail art together, the Seniors put their teamwork to the test with a Shark Tank challenge, and our Teens gathered for a meaningful devotional and bonding time.

It was an evening full of laughter, creativity, and friendships. Sometimes it's the simple moments spent together that become the memories campers cherish most. We wrapped up another wonderful day at Heart looking forward to all the fun the weekend would bring.

Saturday was another fun-filled day at Heart as campers enjoyed a full schedule of activities, time with friends, and plenty of opportunities to continue working toward achievements in their classes. It's amazing how quickly everyone has settled into camp life, and it's been wonderful watching campers grow more confident with each passing day.

After lunch, it was time to say goodbye to our 2A campers. While goodbyes are never easy, we loved celebrating all they accomplished during their time at Heart. Each camper left with an award packet filled with the achievements she earned throughout her session, and campers celebrating their 3rd, 5th, or 7th term were recognized with their special tenure awards. We are so proud of each of these girls and can't wait to welcome them home again next summer!

One of the highlights of the afternoon was the Senior Teen Swim Meet, where campers cheered each other on with lots of enthusiasm and Sisterhood spirit. Congratulations to the Crossed Arrows on their swim meet victory!

After dinner, everyone gathered for a relaxing movie night. Campers enjoyed watching Puss in Boots together while sharing snacks and ending the day with plenty of laughs.

As another busy day came to a close, campers headed back to their cabins to rest up for another exciting day ahead. Every day brings new adventures, stronger friendships, and memories that will last long after summer ends, and we're so grateful to share them with your daughters.

Sunday mornings at Heart are always a little slower, and today was no exception. Campers enjoyed a true sleep-in before making their way to breakfast whenever they woke up. Of course, Sunday waffles were a favorite!

After breakfast, the letter writing station opened once again, giving campers time to write home before turning in their letters at worship.

Our teen-led worship followed, and our 16-year-old campers did an incredible job leading the service. They shared stories about their time at Heart, the friendships they've built, and what camp has meant to them over the years. It was a meaningful morning and a wonderful opportunity for our younger campers to see the impact Heart has long after a summer ends.

Following worship, campers enjoyed another round of Rave Bingo, friendship bracelet making, and field games before gathering for lunch.

We were also honored to welcome a very special visitor to camp—Renee Coale Willis and her family. Renee wrote Three Little Pine Trees when she was just 13 years old at Heart, and the song has remained a beloved Sunday tradition ever since. It was so special to have her back at camp and to celebrate a piece of Heart history together.

After lunch, we were excited to welcome our new 2B campers! Drop-off went smoothly, and before long our newest campers were diving right into Sunday's "Dabbles." They had the chance to try activities like pickleball, archery, riflery, swimming, arts & crafts, and the ever-popular slip 'n slide as they began settling into camp life.

Following activities, we held one of our favorite traditions for first-time campers—the Bead Drawing. Each new 2B camper drew her bead and officially joined either the Strong Sisterhood of the Crossed Arrows or the Powerful Sisterhood of the Thunderbirds, beginning a tradition she'll carry with her for years to come.

After the teens absolutely dominated the pizza cheers at dinner, campers gathered for a wonderful meal together before ending the evening with a beautiful Vespers service presented by our Crossed Arrows.

It was a day filled with tradition, new beginnings, and meaningful moments. We can't wait to see our newest campers head off to their first full day of classes tomorrow!

Today was our first Monday/Wednesday/Friday class day for our new 2B campers! After a little help finding their way around camp this morning, they were off and running. By the second class period, it already felt like they'd been here for days.

One of today's highlights came from Cooking, where campers prepared Spaghetti Bolognese. Parents, here's something to look forward to—every camper will head home with a cookbook featuring the recipes they learned at camp. We hope you'll let them take over the kitchen and make dinner for the family when they get home!

Achievements continue to roll in across camp, and we're so proud of the hard work our campers are putting into learning new skills and reaching new milestones. Congratulations to today's achievement recipients!

During siesta, we finished filling and delivering all of our new camper Trading Post orders, so everyone should now have their camp gear ready to enjoy!

It was another warm Texas summer day, with temperatures climbing above 100 degrees. Our counselors and leadership team continued encouraging campers to drink plenty of water, take advantage of shaded areas, and stay cool throughout the day.

This afternoon, each Sisterhood gathered to elect their Wayshowers—campers who help lead and encourage their divisions throughout the term. Congratulations to our newly elected officers!

Tonight, campers gathered on the hill for Mountain Top before counselors headed off to spend time with their Sisterhoods. Meanwhile, our Heart LITes and counselors enjoyed an evening of fellowship and team bonding during Counselor Happy Hour led by Rebecca.

A big congratulations as well to this week's Sisters O' the Week! These campers have been recognized for their positive attitudes, leadership, kindness, and the way they live out the Heart spirit each day.

The past two days have been full of activities, achievements, traditions, and plenty of summer fun!

Tuesday

Our Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday classes continued as campers kept working toward new achievements and building their confidence in each activity.

Our Teen swimmers also had a little extra fun in the pool, learning a synchronized swimming routine from Judith. There were plenty of laughs, and they did an impressive job mastering the routine!

One of the highlights of the day was our Brother/Sister Picnic at Camp Stewart. It was so special watching campers reunite with their brothers, share lunch together, and enjoy time catching up.

That evening, campers kicked off our Big Dill Pickleball Tournament! The competition was fierce, and by the end of the night, 15 of the 22 tournament games had been completed. We're looking forward to crowning our champions after the final matches on Sunday!

Wednesday

Wednesday brought another beautiful (and very warm!) day at Heart. Temperatures climbed, but with plenty of water breaks, a few location changes to take advantage of the shade, and lots of time cooling off, campers stayed happy and hydrated. Nearly everyone enjoyed a turn in the pool, which was the perfect way to beat the Texas heat.

Our Monday/Wednesday/Friday classes continued, and achievements kept rolling in.

During Junior Just for Fun, campers enjoyed a spirited game of Spoons, which quickly became one of the loudest (and funniest!) events of the afternoon.

Our scheduled Eat-Out dinner turned into a buffet after a last-minute menu change, and the campers certainly didn't mind!

After 6th period, everyone gathered for one of our annual camp traditions—the All-Camp Panorama and Sisterhood Panorama photos. Parents, we're excited to share that you'll receive digital copies of these panoramic photos complimentary through the Campanion app after camp!

The day wrapped up with one of the biggest evenings of the summer—Carnival! Campers enjoyed classic carnival games, treats, laughter, and lots of friendly competition. It was the perfect way to end another unforgettable day at Heart.

Color the Camp Field Day

Today was Color the Camp Field Day, and our campers had an amazing time! We took a break from our typical class schedule and jumped into a day full of friendly competition, teamwork, and camp spirit.

The morning started with Cat & Mouse, where the Crossed Arrows and Thunderbirds raced across the field, chasing and tagging one another for the win. Congratulations to the Crossed Arrows, who came out victorious! After Cat & Mouse, campers competed in the War Canoe Tug O' War (won by PWC) before breaking into division games. Our S'Minions played Gaga Ball, Juniors battled it out in Dodgeball, and our Seniors and Teens took on Speedball.

The excitement continued as the entire camp gathered to watch the Practice War Canoe Race. SWC raced first with a time of 56.415 seconds, followed by PWC, who finished in 54.75 seconds to take the win. After cheering on the racers, everyone cooled off with a dip in the river before heading to lunch.

Following lunch and a well-deserved extended siesta, campers returned for an afternoon of Field Day mini-games. Favorites included Colored Wig Capture, the Firelighter Jello Feed Relay, and the Rainbow Route Race. To finish off the afternoon competitions, PWC and SWC met for one final showdown in an exciting game of Dodgeball. It came down to the wire, including an incredible half-court shot by Maria Gonzales that earned SWC a dramatic jail break, but in the end, PWC pulled off the victory.

After Dodgeball, campers changed into white shirts for one of the most anticipated moments of the day—a Color War!Clouds of colorful Holi powder filled the air as campers celebrated together before everyone headed to the All-Camp Slip 'N Slide to cool off before dinner. It was the perfect way to wrap up an unforgettable afternoon.

Following dinner, we gathered for our Track Race Events, where campers competed in various heats and relays by division. Races included the 25-meter, 50-meter, 75-meter, and 100-meter dashes, with campers cheering each other on every step of the way.

To end the evening, our Teens celebrated with an Ice Cream Party while the rest of camp headed back to their cabins for an early night after such a full day.

The overall Field Day Champion will be announced tomorrow morning—we can't wait to find out who takes home the title!

Bribery is back! 😊

For generations, campers who sign up for the following summer before leaving camp have received a special "bribe." It's a fun tradition we borrowed from Camp Stewart years ago, and one we couldn't wait to continue at Heart.

More importantly, though, Summer 2027 is already generating tremendous interest. Based on what we've seen this year, we fully expect many sessions to fill well before the end of the year. We want our returning Heart campers to have the very first opportunity to reserve their place before enrollment opens more broadly.

It's hard to believe we're already approaching the end of another incredible camp session. We've loved watching your daughters grow in confidence, build lifelong friendships, and create memories that will stay with them long after they leave Heart.

As you prepare for Closing Weekend, we've put together the schedule and a few helpful reminders to make your visit as smooth and enjoyable as possible. We hope you'll join us as we celebrate all that your campers have accomplished this summer and enjoy one last evening together at Heart.

Friday, July 31st: Family Picnic & Memorial Vespers

6:30 PM – Gates Open

When you arrive at camp, you'll enter through the second entrance to Upper Camp off Riverbend Road, which is the same entrance used for camper drop-off.

Parking & Vehicle Notes

Parking will be available but is limited. If possible, please carpool or consolidate vehicles before arriving at camp.

7:00 PM – Family Picnic Supper

We will host a picnic supper on the grounds for campers and their families. Wear comfortable clothing to walk around camp, play lawn games, and enjoy an evening together at Heart.

8:45 PM (Dusk) – Memorial Vespers

Memorial Vespers will take place on the upper lawn. During this beautiful candlelight ceremony, the recipient of the Jo Jones Memorial Sportsmanship Award will be announced and presented by the Top Ten Juniors. Campers will sit with their cabins in front, while family members and guests are invited to sit behind them. 

9:45 PM - Departure
Families will depart camp, and campers and counselors will enjoy root beer floats and their final cabin celebrations together.

Saturday, August 1st: Camp Closing

9:30 AM – Gates Open

Time to greet your campers, load trunks in your vehicle, shop at the Trading Post, and pick up medications from the camp nurse. 

10:15 AM – Naming O' the Braves & Awards Ceremony

Join us in the Heart Hall for an exciting ceremony that recaps memories from the term and highlights camper accomplishments.  Awards presented include:

As we get excited to welcome everyone back to Heart, here are a few friendly reminders to help Closing Day run smoothly:

Handmade Gifts Only
We'd like to remind families that one of Heart's sweetest traditions is the exchange of thoughtful, handmade gifts between campers.

Please do not send or bring store-bought gifts. We want to preserve the spirit of this tradition by encouraging campers to create something meaningful from the heart rather than focusing on purchased items. Some of the most treasured keepsakes from camp are the handwritten notes, friendship bracelets, and handmade creations exchanged between friends.

Thank you for helping us keep this Heart tradition simple, meaningful, and special for every camper.

Final Fiesta (Instead of Pig Out)
This year, instead of Pig Out, Heart will be hosting a Final Fiesta! We'll provide plenty of snacks and treats for the campers to enjoy together, so there's no need to send additional food. Please save this for the ride home on Saturday. This also helps us avoid unwanted critters in the cabin and too many upset stomachs before campers head home.

Please Leave Pets at Home
As much as we all love our furry friends, we kindly ask that pets stay at home on Closing Day. Due to state regulations and camp licensing requirements, we aren't able to allow pets on camp property. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation in helping us keep everyone safe.

Friday, July 24 Daily Update

Today was another wonderful day at Heart, and the weather couldn't have been more perfect. Cooler temperatures have finally arrived just in time for one of our favorite traditions—Overnight!

Campers enjoyed another full day of activities. In Just for Fun, everyone cooled off with homemade ice cream, while Cooking filled camp with the delicious smell of fresh raspberry muffins. Our Swim classes took advantage of the weather by spending time playing in the flume.

Tonight is Overnight, and campers are spread across camp with their divisions enjoying a special evening together under the stars.

• Sminions are camping on the front lawn near the office.

• Juniors are set up on the green space beside the Dining Hall, where they'll also enjoy a special Harry Potterstorytime before bed.

• Seniors are camping on the big field.

• Campers will spend the evening sharing s'more skits around the campfire.

• Our Teens are enjoying an off-site adventure at Mo-Ranch.

There is something truly special about an Overnight at Heart. From campfires and laughter to sleeping under the stars with lifelong friends, these are the moments campers remember for years to come.

After what many campers called the "best Overnight ever," everyone returned to camp with plenty of stories to tell—and a few surprises waiting for them! Each camper came back to find a special gift from Santa waiting on her bed, adding one more memorable moment to an already unforgettable overnight.

Our Teens and LITes had a wonderful time at Mo-Ranch, spending the day floating, swimming, and relaxing in the Guadalupe before enjoying a well-deserved chance to sleep in this morning.

Because of Overnight, campers eased back into the day with classes beginning at 3rd period, giving everyone a little extra time to rest and recharge.

Back at camp, Just for Fun whipped up homemade ice cream to help everyone cool off from the summer heat.

The S'Minions absolutely loved spending time in the flume today and also competed in their swim meet for Sisterhood points.

Congratulations to the Thunderbirds for winning the Minion Swim Meet and the Crossed Arrows for taking the Sophomore Swim Meet!

There were plenty of fun moments throughout the day, including Jane Fussell pulling off an impressive Gaga Ball victory over the Seniors and Teens!

Cooking class stayed busy making pancakes—with and without sprinkles—while campers enjoyed another afternoon of activities across camp.

Our Seniors enjoyed a special Night In, where John and Elisabeth cooked burgers just for them, creating a relaxed evening together before camp begins winding down. Meanwhile, the Teens headed to Grape Juice for a fun outing. Grape Juice was incredibly generous to our camp community following last summer's flood, so it was especially meaningful to support a business that showed Heart so much kindness.

To wrap up the evening, campers gathered on the lawn for a showing of Hannah Montana: The Movie, complete with popcorn and soda under the stars.

It's been another day full of laughter, friendship, and memories that will last long after camp ends.

Sunday was a meaningful day at camp, full of reflection, laughter, and time together.

Our LITes led worship this morning, sharing a message that was thoughtful, heartfelt, and incredibly special. We are so proud of the leadership they continue to demonstrate and the example they set for our younger campers.

After worship, campers enjoyed a mandatory rest period before returning to the fun. The Big Dill Pickleball Tournamentwrapped up this afternoon, bringing an exciting finish to a week of great competition.

Tonight's Pizza Cheers had everyone laughing as the campers teamed up to prank the heads of camp by all singing the exact same cheers together. It was a fun surprise and a reminder that camp traditions are always best when shared with a little humor.

The evening concluded with the Thunderbirds' Vespers presentation. Through music, creativity, and a meaningful message, they created a beautiful close to the day.

It was a wonderful Sunday at Heart, filled with moments that reminded us just how special this place and these campers truly are.


LITes Message:

We often hear “The people make the place,” especially at camp, but rarely do we talk about what that really means. 

There are millions of beautiful places on Earth, places where you can sit and watch the river flow, listen to the birds sing, and gaze at the expanse of stars, so why is The Heart a place that is so special? The bunks, buildings, and even the nature of The Heart can all be recreated, but it’s the people, each of you, that cannot be replaced. Without every person here today, camp would not be the beloved place it is—the place that people choose to come back to again and again. Camp feels like a puzzle missing the final piece until all of us fill it with laughter and joy every summer. 

The traditions camp is built upon were formed over the years. Generations of Heart girls came to camp and brought with them new songs, cheers, and ideas, making camp magical again and again. What we now think of as old standbys like “Three Little Pine Trees,” River Jumps, and “How Did We Come to Meet Here?” were once new and different. What allowed these to become cherished traditions was the welcoming community of The Heart girls. That openness to try new things and adapt songs and cheers makes special memories that connect the past to the present. Adding special verses to songs like "Barges" makes us all have a newer version of the same place called "Heart O' the Hills.” This spirit continues on today as we embrace traditions old and new.

Kindness is truly the backbone to a close-knit community, like the one we have at camp. It’s something that's folded into everything we do.  The perfect description is written in the camp prayer we recite each Sunday: “Do a little good each day at some cost to yourself.”  Helping a minion find her way to class, cheering someone up when they're feeling down, and celebrating others' accomplishments are all second nature at camp. These little acts all add up to form the sisterhood of The Heart that’s so special. Each time you pick someone up, lend a helping hand, or simply sit and listen to the breeze with someone, you’re deepening the bond.

The friendships built here aren't only formed during big events or exciting moments; they’re created through quiet conversations during siesta, shared smiles in the dining hall, and the countless ways we show up for each other every single day.

Selflessness is one of the greatest gifts we can give to one another, and it's something that can apply to every camper and counselor. Whether you are a first year minion finding your way around camp, a sixteen-year-old setting an example for those who look up to you, or the counselors and head staff who pour into each of us every day. Choosing to put someone's needs before your own creates a long lasting impact and shows incredible maturity. Acts of selflessness don't have to be grand: it could be sharing your time with someone who needs a friend, or choosing to put on a smile after a rough war canoe practice. Those small sacrifices make a difference and strengthen the sisterhood that makes camp feel so much like home.

One small act of kindness has the power to completely change the course of someone's day. A simple compliment, an invitation to sit together during class, or asking someone how they are really doing can remind them that they’re seen and valued. You may never know what other people are carrying with them, but your kindness can become the bright spot they carry with them long after camp ends. As we move through this last week of camp, let us continue to live out the words of the camp prayer by choosing to be kind and selfless through everything we do. When each of us commits to doing “a little good each day,”  that kindness has its way of spreading. One thoughtful gesture inspires another, creating a ripple effect that spreads beyond what we can see.

Monday, July 27 Daily Update

Another beautiful day at Heart was filled with sunshine, accomplishments, and plenty of opportunities to try something new!

Campers enjoyed a full day of classes, with one fun highlight coming from Field Sports, where games of four square quickly became a camp favorite. Over at the pool, our Minions have been working hard on their diving skills and are making great progress as they continue building confidence in the water.

One of today's most meaningful moments happened away from camp. Our LITes spent part of the day serving the community by volunteering at a drive-thru food distribution, helping hand out more than 50,000 pounds of food to families in need. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to put Heart's values of service and leadership into action while making a real difference in our community.

During Gathering today, campers learned about one of Heart's most cherished traditions—Mountain Top. In an exciting surprise, the counselors were invited to participate alongside the campers this year, a privilege usually reserved only for the girls. There was plenty of anticipation as everyone waited to discover which hill they would climb.

After dinner, campers gathered with their Sisterhoods for cheers before making their way up the hills together. At the top, they were welcomed with encouraging words, small gifts, and meaningful moments shared with friends and counselors alike. Traditions like Mountain Top create memories that stay with Heart Girls long after summer ends.

It's been another wonderful day at The Heart, and we're looking forward to all the memories still to come!

Another fun-filled Tuesday kept campers busy from morning until night, with a special evening spent alongside our friends at Camp Stewart!

Before the day even got started, we'd like to give a special shout-out to our Head LITe, Sumner, who got up bright and early to make a trip to San Antonio to pick up ammunition so our riflery program could finish out the final week of camp. Thank you, Sumner, for going the extra mile to keep camp running smoothly!

Campers spent the morning enjoying their TTS classes. In one of Heart's most beloved traditions, Cooking Class made Dr Pepper Cake during one of their final classes of the summer—a longtime Heart favorite that always disappears quickly! Juniors and Seniors also enjoyed a spirited game of Toppleball during Field Sports.

After lunch, the Trading Post opened its doors, and it's safe to say this crew enjoys shopping! Campers stocked up on their favorite Heart gear, sweet treats, and a few last-minute souvenirs before the summer comes to a close.

Following Siesta, campers headed over to Camp Stewart for one of the most anticipated events of the term—the annual Meets Competition! Campers from both camps were divided into Team Ragsdale and Team Hay for an evening full of friendly competition. Events included kickball, climbing, arts, outdoor cooking, and plenty of other camp favorites, giving everyone the chance to work together, cheer each other on, and enjoy a little friendly rivalry.

After all the competitions wrapped up, everyone gathered for a pizza dinner with the Stewart campers before the scores were announced. The excitement built as everyone waited to hear the results... Congratulations to this term's champions: Team Ragsdale!

Another incredible day is in the books as we head into the final stretch of an unforgettable summer at Heart.

Today marked the final day of our MWF class rotation, and campers wrapped up another great session before celebrating with one of the funniest traditions of the summer—our end-of-term Award Show!

During siesta campers enjoyed the rewards they earned during Carnival earlier this term. Honeysuckle, after earning an incredible seven perfect scores in inspection, celebrated with Sonic drinks during their carnival won pool party. Our LITes also enjoyed their well-earned Carnival prize with a movie, candy, and soda together.

Throughout the evening, campers gathered to recognize the personalities, show off their talents, and memorable moments that have made this term so much fun. From hilarious superlatives to heartfelt favorites, and performances, there were plenty of laughs as campers and counselors cheered each other on.

It's hard to believe we've reached the final day of classes. As the summer begins winding down, campers are soaking up every last tradition, every laugh with friends, and every opportunity to make one more Heart memory.

One of today's favorite stories belonged to our S'Minions, who adopted a pet stick they appropriately named Sticky. Sticky tagged along on adventures around camp—including a ride down the flume! Speaking of the flume, campers spent another beautiful afternoon floating the river, and our Seniors even set a new camp record by fitting six campers on one float for the ride.

Cypress Cradle, whose incredible streak of seven consecutive Perfect Cabins as a minion cabin earned them a well-deserved pool party!

At lunch, our all-term Perfect Cabins were recognized with a special Chick-fil-A lunch at the Pavilion - Daisy Elm, and CFC !

Counselors was treated with excitement thanks to a thoughtful surprise from Sarah and Hailey, who treated our staff to a Dirty Soda Bar. A Dirty Soda Bar is a fun drink station where campers (or in this case, counselors!) customize fountain sodas with flavored syrups, cream, fruit, and other mix-ins to create their own special drinks. It was the perfect afternoon pick-me-up for our incredible staff.

This evening marked our final Mountain Top of the summer. As the sun dipped behind the hills, we were blessed with a breathtaking sunset that served as the backdrop for one of Heart's most meaningful traditions.

After lighting the S&P, as the fire settled, our sixteen-year campers gently placed candles into the river, followed by our Heart LITes, creating a quiet and unforgettable moment of reflection.

The realization that camp is coming to an end is beginning to sink in for many campers and counselors alike. While goodbyes are never easy, there is something incredibly special about these final days—the traditions, the friendships, and the memories that remind us why Heart feels like home.

Tomorrow we'll welcome families back to camp as we celebrate another unforgettable summer together.

Many grew up at Heart themselves—spending years here as campers and Heart LITes before returning to create that same experience for the next generation. Our U.S.-based counselors represent an impressive range of colleges and universities, including Columbia, the University of North Texas, the University of Arkansas, the University of Mississippi, Schreiner, Sam Houston State, Pratt Institute, the University of Missouri, New York University, the University of Texas at Austin, and the University of Alabama. Our international staff have brought their talents and perspectives to Heart from England, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Colombia, and Spain. Together, they are a thoughtful, capable, energetic group of young women whose care for the girls—and love for camp—has been evident throughout the summer.
